ClearTerms Privacy Policy
ClearTerms is a capacitive iOS client for a Next.js backend that explains contracts, leases, and other uploaded documents. We do not collect personal data unless you choose to upload a document for analysis, and every request is processed securely for that purpose only.
1. What Data We Collect
The only data we collect is the document file (PDF or image) that you explicitly select and upload through the app. We also collect the optional metadata you provide in the form fields (document type, jurisdiction, goal, analysis mode), because that information helps the backend tailor the explanation to your situation.
We do not automatically collect location, contacts, device identifiers, analytics, or any personal data that is not part of the file you upload. Any additional input you type is used immediately for that request and not stored beyond the request lifetime.
2. How We Use Your Data
- Send the uploaded document and optional metadata to the backend for extraction, structured JSON generation, and markdown explanations.
- Render the human-readable markdown response inside the app so you can review questions, red flags, and summaries.
- Cache a short history of recent responses locally on your device so you can reopen them without uploading again.
- Otherwise, nothing else is done with the files—there is no profiling, marketing, or analytics.
3. Sharing With Third Parties
The backend forwards your document data to the chosen large language model provider (for example, OpenAI Responses) to generate the explanation text. Only the contents of the document and the associated prompts are shared with that provider; we do not share any unrelated personal information.
Hosting and object storage are handled by Amazon Web Services (AWS) via Amplify, and network requests are encrypted with HTTPS. No analytics or tracking SDKs are embedded in the ClearTerms iOS or web client.
4. Retention and Deletion
Uploaded documents are retained on the server only as long as needed to finish the analysis, deliver the response, and troubleshoot any rare errors. In practice, data older than 30 days is deleted automatically, and we do not keep long-term copies beyond that window.
To request deletion of your data sooner, please email support@clear-terms.com with the request ID shown in the app or a description of the document you uploaded. We will confirm once we purge the stored data.
5. Security Measures
We enforce transport-layer encryption (HTTPS) for all uploads, enforce strict MIME-type checks, and isolate uploads per request. Access to stored data is limited to the minimal backend services that need it for processing and debugging.
You can cancel an in-flight upload at any time using the cancel control in the app, which immediately aborts the upload and tells the backend to stop processing.
